HARTLEPOOL VELOCIPEDE CLUB
1869

Several members of the Hartlepool Phoenix club
recently formed themselves into a velocipede club.
Mr. J.H.
Atley being appointed secretary. On Thursday, Mr. Atley, deputed by the other members,
proceeded to Newcastle, in order to purchase a velocipede of the bi-cycle make
from Messrs Snoxell and Spencer. In
consequence of the great demand which at present exists, he was unable to
procure one; but orders were given
for one of a very good description – the price being £12 – which, it is
expected, will arrive at Hartlepool during the course of the ensuing week.

So it seems that in the beginning we all shared one bike!
Bet that was fun.
