Plenty of racing action by HCC members over the weekend, starting on Good Friday with Gary Hunt who rode 20-23 on the V718 10 mile course in Hull. The winner did 18-12 and there were 6 riders in total below 18-30!

On Saturday, we had 3 entrants in Otley CC’s 10 on the V212. This was a very windy day, to the extent that it was difficult to ride in the aero position for much of the course. Phil Wright was fastest of our lot in 27-40, with Ted Scurr and Dave Herbert close behind in 27-52 and 28-40 respectively. The winner was Philip Graves of NOPINZ in 20-25, a very fast time considering the conditions.

Sunday saw the Cleveland Wheelers 18 mile SPOCO, consisting of two laps of the T091 course around Stokesley. It was another windy day and a tough, hilly course. Paul Thirling finished 4th in 41-51 and Paul Fountain was also in the top 10, which was another strong result for him in the Teesside SPOCO competition. Next in for HCC was Richie Grant in 49-06, followed by Andrew Wilson in 51-39 and Phil Wright in 53-30. Andrew’s ride was approx. 2 mph faster than on a similar course last month and would have been even more impressive if he hadn’t lost time when his chain slipped off.

Winner was Philip Graves, again, in 38-29.

This coming Saturday brings Hartlepool CC’s first open time trial of the year. We have 54 entrants for the race on the T105 from Sedgefield – Wynyard – Sedgefield. 16 of these are HCC members.

First man is off at 2.01 pm and it should all be over by about 3.15. If you’ve nothing better to do, why not come along and see a few of our lads suffer – the hill leading up to the cream coloured building on the A689 westbound about 1.5 miles before Sedgefield is the hardest part!
