Two of our members contested the Bishop Auckland 33 mile SPOCO from Hamsterley on Sunday 2nd.

The event was won by Keith Murray in a time of 1 hour 15 minutes and 52 seconds. For HCC, Paul Fountain finished 7th in 1-23-55 and Mark Tinkler was 14th in 1-32-11.

Paul Fountain is now leading the Teesside SPOCO series after 3 events.

At the Holmfirth Cycling Club 10 on the O10/9, Gary Hunt was the fastest of our riders in 24-07, exactly a minute ahead of Alan Lang. Phil Wright was home in 27-39, but would have been quicker if he hadn’t missed his turn and had to circle one of the seven roundabouts twice. Some might say Phil was dizzy before that incident. He was certainly dizzy after it! There was a section described in the course notes PLEASE TAKE CARE ON THE SECTION OF ROAD 4.4 MILES TO 7.7 MILES AS THE ROAD SURFACE IS NOT GREAT AND AS YOU DESCEND FROM THE HIGHEST POINT THERE ARE A FEW POT HOLES ON THE WAY DOWN !!! 40 mph in aero position swerving round potholes is definitely character building.

Richard Booth won the second in the Percy Stallard LVRC series to extend his overall lead – see separate report.

Richie Grant had a weekend off racing to take part in the Wiggle Vale Sportive in the hills around Pickering. 73 miles, including 3,500 feet of climbing. He’ll be back to the easier stuff – time-trialling – next weekend.

Social night Thursday 6th from 8 pm at the Lock Gates on the Marina. All welcome. You don’t have to be a member.
