HARTLEPOOL CYCLING CLUB ROUND-UP 24/4/17

posted 27 Apr 2017, 07:26 by Liz Garstang

Phil Wright organised a very successful open event for Hartlepool CC on Saturday 22nd. This was our first event of the season and was run on the T105 10 mile course from Sedgefield to Wynyard and back. 16 HCC members were among the field of 54.

Paul Thirling was our fastest, taking 2nd place in 21-40. Gary Hunt was 10th overall in 22-27 and this gave him 3rd place on VTTA standard. Hartlepool CC took the team prize against VTTA standard with Gary Hunt, Alan Lang and Phil Wright.

Matty Dawkins rode his first time trial and posted a very respectable 27-49.

The event was won by Sean Tyson of Adept precision RT in 20-48.

FULL RESULTS ARE ON THE CYCLING TIME TRIALS WEBSITE.

PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR NEXT OPEN EVENT IS ON SUNDAY 14TH MAY. This was planned as a 25 miler on the A19 from Crathorne but, due to roadworks, has been changed to a 10 MILER ON THE SEDGEFIELD COURSE. Closing date for entries is Tuesday 2nd May.

We had 3 riders in race action on Sunday.

Richard Booth won his age category and took 2nd overall in the Halifax Imps road race, comprising 10 laps of a 4.5 mile moorland circuit. Windy conditions depleted the bunch and Richard, having been pulled back from an earlier break, was strong enough to lead out the sprint only to be pipped on the line by Dave Hughes of Beacon Roads CC.

Paul Thirling placed 8th in the Otley CC 25 mile SPOCO on the V235 course with a time of 55-55.

Paul Garstang took on the fearsome Teesdale CRC mountain time trial – 40 miles from Barnard Castle to Stanhope and back, with 4,000+ feet of climbing. He finished 38th and last after battling severe cramp for the last 16 miles. The scenery was good, though!

Away from racing, Trevor Jones completed the 88 miles Daffodils Sportive through the hilly North Yorkshire National Park. This included over 6,000 feet of climbing but Trevor fairly raced round at 17 mph.

SOCIAL NIGHT NEXT THURSDAY, 4TH MAY, AT THE LOCK GATES ON THE MARINA, STARTING AROUND 8 P.M. ALL WELCOME.
