The 2010 Phillip Russell Memorial Road Race The 2010 Phillip Russell Memorial RR was held on Stokesley/Seamer circuit over 8 laps in perfect conditions. After a rolling start the field of 80 riders started to pick the pace up with individual riders trying to escape the peloton. After the second lap a group of 10 riders managed to escape the bunch, and they worked well to maintain their advantage of 30 seconds over the next two laps only to be reeled back by the bunch at the end of the fourth lap. It was at this point that Simon Baxter (Adept Precision RT) launched an attack to escape the peloton which gained him an advantage of 30 seconds in very little time. Over the next few laps Simon showed his class by extending his lead, this was able abetted by his teammates who closed down any rider who tried to get away from the bunch. As Simon was on his final lap, there was a crash in the peloton which involved 10 riders, of which three had to go to hospital with concussion and abrasions. Simon entered the final straight with a lead of over a minute from the bunch and coasted across the line to earn a well deserved victory. The rest of the peloton fought out a bunch sprint for the minor places. Hartlepool cc would like to thank all its member’s who helped out on the day, as well as the Commissaries , Motorcycle marshal’s and the competitor’s who put on a terrific event. 1st Simon Baxter Adept Precision RT 2nd Damien Sharp West Yorkshire Police 3rd Duncan Moralee 4th Jack Cousins Sport City Velo 5th Marcus Smith Blackhawkbikes.com 6th Robert Carter Velo 29 7th Phil Axe Sharrow CC 8th Neil Beasley Beeston RC 9th Phillip Valentine Wakefield CC 10th David Johnson Adept Precision RT 11th Graham Richardson Blackhawkbikes.com 12th Matthew Brindle 13th Liam Armstrong VC Briganti 14th Jack Rees Adept Precision RT 15th Andrew Oliver Altura |
